A Spotlight on Puccini
Join the Opera Guild of Charlotte for the first Enrichment event of the season, "A Spotlight on Puccini." Professor Melinda Lein and Professor Annie Stankovic, members of the Music Department faculty at Wingate University, will share insights into Puccini's life and career, with a focus on Suor Angelica & Gianni Schicchi, which Opera Carolina will present from January 16-18, 2026 at the Belk Theater. We'll learn more about the historical context and dramaturgy behind this exciting double bill, and how these two operas fit into Puccini's larger operatic canon, such as Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and La Boheme. Artists from Opera Carolina will perform musical highlights from Suor Angelica & Gianni Schicchi to give audiences a "teaser" of what they can expect to hear in January's production -- including one of Puccini's most famous arias, "O mio babbino caro," which is from Gianni Schicchi. Refreshments and complimentary valet parking will be provided by The Village on Morehead.
